Engage Delivers SuperTube T1/E1 Circuit to IP Packet Converter
with VLAN/QOS Ethernet Switch
Engage SuperTube reduces conversion overhead and packet processing by 75%
for both wired and wireless IP Backhaul installations

Aptos, CA. – October 22, 2008: Engage Communication, a leader in T1/E1 circuit to packet conversion and backhaul is shipping the IP Tube G4. The Engage IP Tube G4 T1 and IP Tube G4 E1  are next generation cost and sized reduced solutions that reflect Engage's 8 years of Circuit Extension over Packet expertise. The IP Tube G4 is available with one to four T1/E1 interfaces and single 10/100 BaseT Full/Half Duplex Ethernet Interfaces. An optional integrated 5 port QOS/VLAN/Rate Limiting Layer-2 Ethernet switch is available.

The IP Tube  has proven TDM Over IP installations for PBXs, Cellular Base Stations, Telecom Switching equipment, Public Safety Networks 911, Satellite or radio interfaces. The G4 transparently supports all signaling options including: PRI ISDN, SS7, ESF, SLC-96, CCIS, proprietary out of band and robbed bit signaling. The G4 is remotely manageable either via secure SSH Telnet or SNMP. Secure Socket Shell (SSH) delivers encrypted communications between SSH clients and the G4 Management interface.

The G4 is a low power solution for IP conversion of communication interfaces. Primary applications would certainly include cellular backhaul, but is no means limited to just conversion of mobile services. The G4 is perfect for PBX trunk conversion, for communication network installations such as public safety, transport or other government private networks, and for adaptation of Metro-Ethernet networks to interface to existing TDM connections. The small footprint, lows power and low cost make the G4 an exceptional choice for embedded solutions, tower and pole mount or transportable applications. The IP Tube G4 enclosure measures 5.5" X 7" X 1.5” (1U).

The FIVE (5) port Ethernet switch is an option available on the G4 that can provide Ethernet QOS with up to 4 priority queues. The Ethernet switch functionality is a major plus to mobile operators as they move to upgrade their existing circuits to 3G and 4G services. A rate limiting capability built into the switch means that available bandwidth can be allocated to T1 or E1 circuits for voice backhaul or can be reserved as 3G and 4G data usage increases. The Ethernet switch provides such advanced features as 802.1p/IPv4/IPv6 traffic classification, full IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, RMON, Port Monitoring and Level 2 Firewall. The switch option permits the user to configure the G4 to provide traffic sharing, load balancing or a fully redundant, alternative path for interconnection of the IP encapsulated T1/E1 data. The G4 can be used as a virtual DACS to map DSOs from the TDM circuit to as many as 24/30 remote locations via the IP/Ethernet interfaces.

The G4 is designed on a flexible, software configurable architecture. The unit can be software adapted as T1 or E1 and remotely configured to provide balanced load or alternative path configurations. The flexible configuration architecture and small board size also means the G4 can be integrated into existing communication equipment to provide IP access as the network grows from a legacy TDM solution to an advanced IP data network communication configuration.

The key advantages of the Engage G4 are:

  • Smallest footprint for TDM to IP conversion 3 IP Tube fit on a 19 inch shelf: 12 T1/E1s per 1U
  • Assured Delivery Protocol
  • Secure Communication (Telnet/SNMP) with SSH
  • Full SNMP management GET/SET and TRAP
  • Flexible software design for easy feature upgrades and field installs (both T1/E1)
  • Optional 5 addressable Ethernet ports per unit with built-in Ethernet switch
  • Virtual DACS capability for auto-assignment of DSO per IP address
  • Increased ROI potential when upgrading legacy networks to total data architecture

SuperTube Option
The SuperTube option combines four T1/E1 circuits into one IP packet stream. The SuperTube is specifically designed to facilitate the transport of multiple T1/E1 Circuits over packet connections with limited packet processing capabilities such as Wireless Ethernet. The benefit of 1 versus 4 packet streams is also very beneficial for wired connections due to reduced complexity and latency.

 SuperTubeE1OverIP

“The typical way to extend E1 circuits across packet networks is for each E1 to be encapsulated into individual IP packet streams.” said Mark Doyle Engage President. “The SuperTube Sized IPTube reduces the encapsulation overhead bandwidth and the packet frequency by 75%.”

Engage Communication, founded in 1989, has ROHS compliant solutions that enable organizations to routebridgeencrypt, and auto protect Voice/Video/Data Networks and to take advantage of the lower costs and flexibility associated with Packet transport while preserving theirinvestment in Circuit based premises equipment such as: PBXsPhone SwitchesVoice and Data MultiplexorsVideo and Audio Codecs, andEncryptors...
